Quality & Care

Discover expert tips on caring for your Moroccan rugs and artisan textiles.

Please know that our Vintage Moroccan Rugs are carefully curated, one-off treasures. They may show signs of wear and beautiful imperfections, which add to their story and charm. Our range of Moroccan homewares are made by hand, and most have individual quirks which build the character of each unique piece. It’s why we love them so much!

Cactus Silk Cushions

Our cactus silk cushion covers are naturally vegetable dyed and as such, getting them wet will cause discolouration. We recommend taking them to a dry cleaner should they require cleaning. Do not soak or machine wash as the dye will run and may transfer.

Vintage Moroccan Rugs

All textiles are professionally washed and dried in the Moroccan sun before heading to us here in Australia. We re-vacuum and package all rugs before shipping, but you may find a little residual desert sand or shedding of wool fibres caused by recent washing, which will resolve after a few household vacuums.

How to Clean Your Moroccan Rug

Show your rug some love! Please be kind to your beautiful vintage Moroccan rug and vacuum frequently. To freshen up, air outside in the sunshine for a few hours. Never use any harsh chemicals, instead stick to mild soapy water (we recommend natural shampoo) for spot cleaning.

When a deep clean is required, we recommend taking your rug to a professional carpet cleaning service. Ask them to spot test your Moroccan rug prior to any deep clean.

If you're up for a DIY clean, you can give it a go and it's actually quite easy - we've put instructions below. Please read the following notes first.

Very Important! Always do a small spot test on your rug prior to getting the whole thing wet - especially if you have one of our pale faded rugs. Sometimes the natural dyes still present inside the wool fibres will leach out colour when wet. If you notice this occurring after a spot test, you will need to take your rug to a professional carpet cleaner instead to avoid the dye running and changing the appearance of your beautiful Moroccan rug.

DIY Cleaning Your Moroccan Rug

Fill a bucket with lukewarm soapy water (natural shampoo recommended), chuck your fave tunes on the stereo and get to work! Gently scrub your rug all over with a soft, clean household broom. Once your rug is washed, rinse with a bucket of clean lukewarm water, brush out excess water, then keep it laying flat in the sun to dry. When your Moroccan rug is mostly dry, you can than hang it over a railing or clothes line to complete the drying process. Do not hang until mostly dry as natural dyes may run.

You're all set - best of luck!
