These incredibly beautiful earthy ceramics are from the Beni Mezguilda tribe in northern Morocco.

For thousands of years the Berber women of Morocco have made these ceramics, clay dug from the earth, shaped by hand and cooked by fire, and painted with natural based pigments. The patterns on each pot symbolise the specific tribe in which the women hail from. Each unique piece is a sculptural work of art.

Unfortunately this incredible art is being lost, as this ancient technique is rarely handed down to the next generation who no longer see it as a desirable skill.

There is now only one woman in the tribe that still makes these, and she now produces very few each year. We're not sure if or when we will be able to source more, and we were only able to source two of these small vases this time round.

The profits from these ceramics go straight to the makers and give the village women a degree of financial freedom.

Artisan made, fair trade.

Please allow for some irregularities as these are hand made items.

Size approx: 15cm h x 9 cm w x 9 cm d.

Limited quantities.

Care notes:

Display and decoration only. Never fill with water, or wipe with a damp cloth. Any dampness or water will cause the pigment designs run, and damage the clay forms.

To clean, please only dust gently with a fine, dry duster.
